Beware of fraudulent SEOs

With thousands of websites emerging from the dark every day, it’s no secret why the SEO (Search Engine Optimizing) industry is very large. Because most of these new websites are launched by beginners, there are many SEOs (Search Engine Optimizers in this case) that use this to benefit from the newcomer’s innocence. This results in countless amounts of so called SEO companies that scam their new unsuspecting customers. If you make part of this emerging crowd of website owners who were thinking about hiring or purchasing SEO (Search Engine Optimization, in this case) services, or simply want to know what to watch out for, then you shouldn’t stop reading this.

Fraudulent SEO companies use a lot of methods to gain their client’s trust. They usually take advantage of the potential customer’s urge and hype that come along creating a new website. Here you’ll find the four most common false arguments fraudulent SEOs use, so pay close attention and be extra wary.

1. Spam Emails

This is one of the largest methods scamming SEOs use to communicate with their clients. Legitimate SEO companies don’t usually use random emails to get to you. Amazingly, even Google gets emails like
“Dear google.com,
I visited your website and noticed that you are not listed in most of the major search engines and directories…”
It sounds stupid, doesn’t it?

2. Guarantees

Most of, if not all the fraudulent SEO companies guarantee you’ll be “at the top of search results within a week!” or a month, or whatever timeframe they pick. They also promise you great rankings within short periods of time without even taking a look at your website!
First of all, SEO can’t be done without an in-depth look at a website, and second of all, nobody (and that means NOBODY) can truthfully guarantee your website will be at the top of search results, ever. Even Google themselves say that. So avoid any company that makes promises like these, and this includes those who let you pick what keywords you want to rank for.

3. Maintenance

While it’s true that SEO has to be done permanently, but scammers like overdoing it. Most of them insist that you pay monthly fees in order to stay on top, and provide you with constantly modifying status reports. Real status reports don’t change that often, so this type of argument can only be seen as a scam.

4. Even more maintenance

Because they want to make you pay for their services permanently, they use a sneaky little system to fool you. They provide you with back links from a network of theirs that you don’t know about. These networks actually borrow the page rank from other websites, making you believe you have links from websites with a high PR (Page Rank). What happens afterwards is that if you stop paying their fees, they will make your links disappear, along with your PR. This makes you think you have to pay to stay on top.

Those are the four biggest lies and arguments fraudulent SEOs use. Pay close attention to them, and stay away from companies who do them.
